Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence

Sometimes probono work isn’t just good to enter in award shows. In this case, these posters helped spread the message that domestic violence is never ok.

The RICADV tasked us to come up with a poster campaign that would help end domestic violence. The goal was to raise awareness of the problem and influence the public to act. Sadly most domestic violence cases go unreported. We wanted people, especially men to speak out if they heard of or witnessed any acts of domestic violence. Between 2006 and 2015, 54 people in RI lost their lives to domestic violence. 90% of the perpetrators were men and 10% were women. Although not all domestic violence cases end in homicide nearly 5000 arrests are made each year. In recent years, Rhode Island has initiated a series of screenings for domestic violence cases. These include risk factors with validated assessment tools and then provide those cases assessed as “high risk” with increased levels of services and supervision. Using this approach domestic violence homicide rate was reduced by 34%.

With this being said, the executions we developed incorporated striking visuals that illustrate the problem and made it easily understood in any language. The copy was straightforward. No one needs to be treated like this. The intent was to help the authorities by creating a dialogue in the communities. These posters went a long way in getting the word out in the community.
